Country MusicFest
September 4, 5 & 6, 2014

A fresh mix of highly entertaining personalities from all over Midwest (and even Nashville) will gather for this 11th annual celebration of old-time country music in the comfortable setting of the Adams County Fairgrounds in Hastings, Nebraska.
As always, we've chosen talented groups and individuals who love performing traditional country music and who do it well. You'll be entertained every minute of each day of the three-day event and take home lots of wonderful memories!

2014 MusicFest Line-Up of Performers

RON WILLIAMS

Ron Williams was born into an amazing family steeped in music tradition. The son of internationally known singer/songwriter Leona Williams, Ron has been surrounded by legends of the country music industry since childhood. Ron credits his distinct traditional country sound and love of real Country Music to those experiences. (He bases in Nashville, Tennessee.)

Some of Ron's career highlights include:
•Regular host of the Ernest Tubb Midnight Jamboree
•Regular appearances on RFD-TV
•Daily airplay on satellite and conventional radio
•Successful European tours of Scotland, Ireland and Sweden
•Performances on stage at the Ryman Auditorium, Wild Horse Saloon and many others
•Filmed television pilot for new country music show with Charlie Pride, Mickey Gilley, Willie Nelson and others
•Performed on shows featuring artists such as Gene Watson, Bill Anderson, Vern Gosdin, Johnny Bush, Jean Shepard, Darrell McCall, Ferlin Husky, Sammy Kershaw, Craig Morgan, Charlie Louvin, Lorrie Morgan, and many, others
•Ron's songwriting credits include a co/written charted single on artist Joe Diffie, titled "Somethin' Like This," the title track from the gospel album Before You Say Amen from Texas artist Justin Trevino, a single on Music City Records recording artist Sonny Burgess titled "Alone with You" and others.

"BIG AL" WEEKLEY

A transplanted Virginian, Al Weekley is a radio personality, a promoter of country music, a concert producer, a long-haul trucker, a newspaper publisher and a darn good singer. He makes his home in Lexington, Nebraska, and is known to thousands for his “Americana Gospel” program on KRVN Radio in Lexington. He's been honored several times for his many accomplishments related to the preservation of old-time country music—as a promoter, deejay and M.C.  Now we're honored to have "Big Al" spend all three days of the MusicFest with us, as he shares his heartfelt country music and his special “Tribute to the Country Legends” show.

EICHOR & AWE
A duet for the ages, Dale & Bobby have been singing and performing old-time country music since Methuselah was a kid. Dale is a partially retired disk jockey and member of the DJ Hall of Fame who champions live music performance and gives airplay to hundreds of unknown artists who do "true country." Bobby is a longtime singer of country music who believes the best music is the kind he grew up with. Bobby and Dale have blended their individual life-long loves of the music into a sound that is special and memorable, but it's the songs they perform that are the hallmark of their performance...the older, the better, it seems...and we love what they do!

JULIE & MIKE
Norfolk, Nebraska-based husband-wife duo Julie & Mike Couch will join us again this year. Julie, one of the Johansen Sisters duo of years back, has teamed  up with husband Mike to create a country duo that's already grabbing attention of fans across the Midwest. Julie is featured on most of the vocals and Mike accompanies on keyboard and offers vocal harmony support as well. Their sound is special and their style is at once funny and classy. (Julie's "cousin" Juleeen has been invited to join us at the MusicFest as well. We always love to see what that flamboyant church secretary has been up to!)

A LITTLE BIT OF HEAVEN

Van Bradley of Agra, Kansas, is the lead singer and cornerstone of this spirited group of gospel music singers and players. Completing the vocal component are family members Debbie, Curtis and Nathan Pfeil, of Alma, Nebraska.  The group is often joined by young keyboardist Mathew Davis, also of Alma, and guitarist Jerry Porter of Holdrege, Nebraska.  If you haven't experienced a performance by "A Little Bit of Heaven," you must include their Thursday night "Gospel Music Gatherin'" performance in your plans.  You'll never be the same....and you'll certainly be a better person for it!
Debbie & Curt will perform on their own throughout the weekend as well. And, if you watch closely, you just might catch a glimpse of that lanky, smooth-talking "Hollywood" character we have all come to love!

CURT SHOEMAKER
"Steel Man" Curt Shoemaker, from Ionia, Kansas, returns as leader of our Miles of Memories Band and as a solid featured performer as well. A member of the Kansas Steel Guitar Hall of Fame and recipient of numerous awards, Curt brings outstanding talent, an appreciation of the country music of various eras, a belief in helping young entertainers hone their skills and event a bit of orneriness to the MusicFest stage.

JANET MCBRIDE
Our celebrity guest this year is "Queen of the Yodelers " Janet McBride. Janet made a name for herself on the West Coast during the 1960s and '70s as a strong "girl singer" and performed with the likes of Winn Stewart and Patsy Montana. She became the owner/operator of the renowned Mesquite Opry in Texas during the early 1980s. Throughthat venue, she nurtured the talents of such current big name performers as LeighAnn Rimes and Kacey Musgraves.  She's a leader of the Texas-based Buckaroos, an organization that works with young performers and gives them a place to perform for tourists and music fans. Her biography, entitled Still Lovin' the Ride, was published in 201l, and has received acclaim from the music and western heritage communities.

BAILEY WILTON
College girl Bailey Wilton is one of the few young people we've found who loves to sing and perform classic country music songs and does a great job of it.  From Lincoln, Kansas, Bailey has won numerous awards, both for her music and her academic pursuits. No matter which direction she decides to pursue in life, we wish her the best. We're proud to have Bailey with us at the 2014 MusicFest...this time not as a junior performer but as an adult. Welcome back, Bailey.

TERRY KEEFE
Fiddler Terry Keefe, a native of Lincoln, Nebraska, has been playing professionally for more than 25 years with various musical ensembles featuring an array of musical styles including bluegrass, blues, celtic, swing and Cajun.  In addition to fiddling with the Lincoln-based bluegrass band "The Toasted Ponies," he plays with country with "The Prairie Dogs" and Irish pub songs with "The Turfmen" and Donnybrook." He's won numerous awards and contests the Midwest fiddle championship and the Iowa State mandolin championship.  He's appeared on several Nebraska Public Television music specials, including the nationally broadcast documentary "In Search of the Oregon Trail." Terry and wife Molly both teach English in the Lincoln Public School system.

TEX & MARY SCHUTZ
MusicFest hosts and presenters Tex & Mary are long-time performers of what they affectionately call "antique-style country music."  Each year, they gather several of their favorite country performers and present this celebration of traditional country music known as "Miles of Memories Country MusicFest."  With almost 40 hours of good, old country music in the form of theme shows, concerts, barn dances and fun, it's an experience you won't want to miss!
